Add Additional Participants to a Video Conferencing Call

Video calls can now support multiple participants, allowing a practitioner to invite additional authorized participants to an active video call.

Add Additional Participants to a Video Call

This is useful when a patient visit requires another practitioner or member of the care team to participate in the same session. The new functionality extends the call so additional participants can join without starting a separate video conferencing session.

Inviting an Additional Participant

Start the video conferencing call

Start the video call with the patient as you normally would.

Select the option to invite a participant

While the call is active, select the option used to invite an additional participant.

Depending on the version of the application, this may be labeled Invite practitioner, Add Participant, or a similar option.

Select the participant

Select the person you want to invite from the available participants. You can use the search bar for quick search.

Send the invitation

After selecting the participant, send the invitation. The selected participant will be associated with the existing video conferencing session.

Joining an Invited Video Call

Once an additional participant has been invited, they can join the existing video conferencing session through the invitation presented to them.

Join the Call

Select Accept or the corresponding action presented with the invitation.

The participant will then enter the existing video conferencing session with the other participants.

Multiple Participants in the Call

After the additional participant joins, the interface automatically accommodates multiple participants. Instead of displaying only the practitioner and patient, the call displays the participants who are currently connected to the session.

Participant Status

The video conferencing experience supports participant presence and media status, allowing participants to see who is currently connected to the session. Depending on the available controls, participants may also be able to manage their microphone and camera during the call.

Cancel an Invitation

If an invitation needs to be withdrawn before the participant joins, the practitioner can cancel the pending invitation when the Cancel Invitation option is available.

Leaving a Call

Participants can leave the video conferencing session using the existing call controls.

Leaving the session removes that participant from the active video call while allowing the remaining participants to continue the session, when supported by the current call workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can more than two people participate in a video call?

Yes. The video conferencing experience has been updated to support multiple participants in the same session.

Does this replace the existing one-to-one video conferencing experience?

The multi-participant capability extends the existing workflow rather than replacing it.

Can I invite someone after the call has already started?

Yes. The feature is designed to allow an additional participant to be invited to an active video conferencing session.

Can I cancel an invitation?

Yes, when a pending invitation is available to be canceled.

Does the patient need to start a new call when another participant joins?

No. The additional participant joins the existing session.

Troubleshooting

The participant cannot see the invitation

Verify that:

  1. The participant was selected correctly.

  2. The invitation was successfully sent.

  3. The participant has the required permissions.

  4. The participant is signed in to the appropriate practice/account.

  5. The video conferencing session is still active.

If the problem persists, contact our support team.

The participant cannot join the call

Verify that the invitation is still active and that the video conferencing session has not ended. If the invitation was canceled, a new invitation may be required.

The call still shows only two participants

Confirm that the additional participant has actually joined the session rather than only receiving an invitation.
